LIFE BEWARE ACTION PLAN RESPONDS TO THE COVENANT OF MAYORS INITIATIVE ON CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION

LIFE BEWARE is a project involving various actors with the shared objective of developing operational tools for the adaptation to climate change of territories and in particular in the Upper Vicenza area.

The BEWARE Action Plan responds to the needs of those who live in the territory,  and it proposes concrete and effective interventions to adapt to future extreme climatic events such as floods, storms, droughts, etc.

The initiatives have been developed by a diverse group of people – students, professionals, technicians, and administrators; through a participatory process. The phase of collective co-creation of the plan took place in parallel with the development of the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) linked to the European initiative of the Covenant of Mayors.

The Covenant of Mayors Initiative on Climate Change Adaptation was set up by the European Commission as one of the actions of the EU Adaptation Strategy to engage cities in taking action to adapt to climate change. It brings together thousands of local governments local governments committed, on a voluntary basis, to implementing EU climate and energy targets.

The activities of the LIFE BEWARE project  aim at activating adaptation policies at a local and territorial level to address the inevitable impacts of climate change and to climate change and exploit any opportunities that may arise. In order to maximise synchronicity between EU projects and initiatives for the sustainability of territories, LIFE Beware has promoted an integrated approach through which the actors involved co-designed adaptation measures related to the idraulical resilience as established by the requirements of the  Covenant of Mayors.

The transition from the BEWARE Action Plan to the SECAP is an opportunity to transfer all the work carried out in LIFE BEWARE into a widely local planning tool (SECAP), given that these activities adhere to the requirements of the initiative itself. The SECAP has become an opportunity to increase the dissemination and adoption of its proposals among the municipalities of the territory with the goal of integrating them into territorial planning from now until 2030.
